The Artist Room at Long March Space presents seven works by Guo Fengyi from 1989 to 1996. The early works on calendar paper and glazed printing paper reflect her contemplation of the human body, not only from an introspective experience, but extends from ‘vipassana’ to ‘clairvoyance’, alluding to ancient divine metaphors found in the laws of the land and heaven, the sun and moon.
The flow of Guo Fengyi’s brushstrokes captures intricate and mysterious forms, from the sacred icons to the transformations of qigong, that are incredibly cluttered, but holistically presents a highly consolidated visual system. Starting from qigong and lines, Guo delves into an spiritual reality that relates to both the human body and the cosmos, distinguishing itself from the material world we are accustomed to and leading toward a hidden, boundless realm.
